Latisse® is a prescription medication that was approved by the FDA in 2009 to treat the medical condition of inadequate eyelashes, known as hypotrichosis.
Latisse has been clinically proven to lengthen, thicken and darken eyelashes. Manufactured by the same company that produces Botox, Latisse shares an active ingredient with Lumigan, a glaucoma treatment.
The eyelash growth potential of this ingredient was first noticed in Lumigan patients and adjusted for a specific focus on eyelash growth.
When to Consider Latisse
Ideal candidates are healthy individuals who are self-conscious about their eyelash length, or those who consistently purchase false lashes. It may benefit you by:
- Darkening the lashes
- Lengthening the lashes
- Thickening the lashes
Taking certain medications or having a history of some medical conditions may decrease the effectiveness of Latisse. Allergies, skin infections, pregnancies and other diseases may prevent you from taking it.
FAQ
What are the steps of Latisse?
It is dabbed along the upper eyelids once a day. Sterile applicators must be used, and are included in the product packaging. Alternative applicators should not be used, and old applicators should not be reused.
What are the results of Latisse?
Clinical testing has shown a variety of benefits including a 25 percent increase in eyelash length, an 18 percent increase in eyelash darkness, and a remarkable 106 percent increase in lash fullness and thickness.
How long do results last?
Results begin to show in as little as eight weeks, and may reach their full improvement after about 16 weeks. Results are not permanent, and must be maintained with consistent application. If it is not administered every other day, as instructed, the eyelashes will return to their normal appearance.
Are there any possible complications with Latisse?
Very rarely, it may cause additional side effects including darkening of eyelid skin or pupils. It may also cause red or itchy eyes and skin hyperpigmentation. All of these risks will be discussed in depth during the consultation process.
