5 Questions with Dr. Gerard Mosiello
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
New Tampa
What can patients expect when they walk through the doors of your office?
Patients can expect a warm welcome and a true respect for their time. Our appointments are prompt with very minimal wait time. We have transitioned to electronic medical records and now patients can fill out their medical history information on the computer from the comfort of their home, eliminating the need to spend additional time filling out paperwork in the office. The patient can also expect my undivided attention for the consultation as we do not double-book appointments and the consultations are done by me personally.
What challenges do you face in your everyday practice?
One thing to remember about plastic surgery, no matter how common place it may be, it is still surgery. The patient’s health and safety are of utmost importance to me and I always reinforce that to my patients.
I think educating a patient about the benefits and limitations of surgery can be challenging. Once a patient has been educated by me about the procedure, there is a better chance of realistic expectations.
I try to get into the minds of my patients to ensure that their perceptions of their appearance are true and they have a clear understanding as to what surgery can and cannot accomplish. My goal is to ensure that the patient achieves the optimum clinical result possible for their individual set of concerns.
How do you ensure the best possible results for your patients?
Performing my surgeries at accredited facilities with highly trained staff affords my patients excellent care. Equally as important to achieving the best possible results is proper patient preparation and education. The consultation and preoperative visits prepare the patient for what to expect from the surgery and educate them to make the recovery a smooth process.
One thing we do at our practice is provide extensive consultations. At that visit, I meet with you and we will talk about the procedure, I will show you pictures, I will show you products, we will discuss your goals and I will examine you to determine the best course of action . . . but that’s not the last time that you see me. You then come back for a preoperative visit 2-3 weeks before your procedure and you will have time to ask all your lingering questions and have them answered by me.
What can your patients expect after surgery?
They can be sure that they have been well prepared and educated as to the guidelines to follow to achieve the best possible results. The medication regimen I prescribe helps to minimize postoperative infections and minimize pain and discomfort. For certain procedures, postoperative garments are chosen to maximize results.
Consistent aftercare is also a benefit for my patients. I am the only doctor in the practice so they can expect they will always see me for all of their postoperative visits, no matter how many visits they may require. I say to my patients, “I’m the only doctor in this office, and if there’s a problem, I carry a beeper at all times. If you call me and I think you need to be seen at 4:00 on a Saturday morning, I’ll meet you.”
Additionally, my office staff is very supportive and encouraging to all our patients and your calls will be answered personally and professionally without delay.
