Juvederm® is a biocompatible hyaluronic acid filler that can significantly reduce the appearance of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and pronounced nasolabial folds, making patients appear more youthful and energetic.
The secret to injections is the use of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring complex sugar that increases skin elasticity, and may decrease in supply with age. The product line replaces that hyaluronic acid and provides smooth, supple, rejuvenated skin.
Juvederm Ultra is specifically intended for moderate wrinkles and folds, while Juvederm Ultra Plus is formulated for deeper, more serious folds and wrinkles.
When to Consider Juvederm
Ideal candidates are healthy individuals who feel that their facial lines and wrinkles give the appearance of an age that is greater than they feel. Juvederm may help transform the following areas:
- Moderate to severe facial wrinkles
- Facial folds
- Nasolabial folds
- Nasogenian grooves
- Cheeks
- Lips
Juvederm may be inadvisable if you are suffering from certain medical conditions or are taking certain medications. Complete discussion of your medical history at the initial consultation can help determine if this is the case.
FAQ
What are the steps of the injections?
The injection sites are marked clearly prior to the procedure. The treatment area is then cleaned and treated with antiseptic. A topical anesthetic may be applied. The injections are made into the mid-to-deep dermis level of the facial tissue.
How long is recovery following the procedure?
Normal activities may be immediately resumed after the injection, as there is typically no need for bandages or other visible treatment. There may be some redness, slight pain or sensitivity at the injection sites, but this should diminish within three days.
How will I feel after the procedure?
Slight discomfort may occur following the procedure, but should subside in three days. In rare cases, swelling or bruises may develop, but should dissipate within seven days.
Are there any possible side effects with Juvederm?
The biocompatible nature of the injections and their minimal invasiveness contribute to a very low likelihood of side effects with Juvederm. Side effects may include swelling, bumps, firmness or bruising.
