The American Board of Medical Specialties, or ABMS, includes 24 physician specialties. To become certified in a specialty recognized by this board, doctors must complete a residency training program in their specialty lasting at least two years after their internship. While the American Board of Plastic Surgery is included within the 24 specialties of the ABMS, there is no specialty dedicated to cosmetic surgery.
